About Us
Project 2nd Chance is 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which has developed a community-based alternative education program designed for students who have dropped out of high school in Atlanta, Georgia. We focus on vocational training, institutional cooperation, and create small, caring communities of support to promote social change in an effort to correct racial injustice.
Communities of Cooperation
Project 2nd Chance creates small, caring communities that set high standards for personal academic growth. Our educators are seasoned professionals with similar backgrounds to those of our students, making our alternative education institution much more effective. Our goal is to build a program climate that fosters not only academic excellence, but compassion and cooperation.
A New Kind of Justice Reform
Project 2nd Chance identifies students who have court-ordered to either finish high school and be cleared of non-violent crime charges, or to return to prison. Our organization is unique in that it tailors our programming to meet the needs of at-risk youth in the Metro Atlanta area, including DeKalb and Cobb counties.
Partnerships that Support
Our community partnerships ensure that vocational training is a key part of the Project 2nd Chance program. Our students work on job sites and develop relationships with employers that last beyond graduation. Click here to learn more about our community partners.
Resources, Commitment, and Expertise
In 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr asked, “ Where Do We Go From Here: Chaos or Community?“ Project 2nd Chance is a Community-Based Alternative Education Program that is determined not only to pay attention to Dr King’s dream but to insist that our programs focus our resources on young people who seek community in the midst of the chaos that seems to be their reality.
Committed both to the concept that all students can learn and to the imperative that all students will learn, Project 2nd Chance brings the resources, commitment, and expertise needed to assure that the needs of a district’s returning dropouts are met in a caring, structured setting.
Students must be given every opportunity to become productive members of society. At Project 2nd Chance, our staff's extensive experience with non-traditional learners creates an academic environment capable of offering all students the educational opportunities they deserve.
Dr. King asked us to guard ourselves from the bitterness, so we can use his vision to see in this generation’s ordeals the opportunity to transform their chaos in to hope for both today’s young people and our American society.
